Congratulations on Judicial Appointment to Provincial Court
THE LAW SOCIETY extends its congratulations to a former Bencher on his appointment to the Provincial Court of Alberta.
The Honourable Judge John Higgerty, a former Bencher and Chief Crown Prosecutor for West Central Alberta was recently appointed to the Bench.
The Honourable Judge Higgerty was first elected a Bencher in 2005. As the Chief Crown Prosecutor based in Hinton for 25 years, he has conducted cases at all levels of Court in Alberta. He graduated from McGill University Law School in 1980 with an L.L.B. and B.C.L. After a few years in general practice he joined the Prosecutors’ Office. Some of his community activities have included: Chair of the steering committee which set up the Yellowhead Emergency Shelter for Women; President of the Boys and Girls Club and Hinton United Way; Board member, Hinton Friendship Centre and Nackowinewak Nation Society; and Instructor of Business Law at Grant McEwan Community College.
