Student Recruitment Dates

The 2013 recruitment period will be June 3 to June 14.

An employer may, any time after the commencement of the recruitment period, give notice to a student that it intends to make an offer of employment. However, employers may only make offers of employment on June 11, 12 and 13 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Those offers must remain open for acceptance until 12:00 noon the following day. An offer of employment may be made at any time after the recruitment period.

 

Summer Sittings Pilot Project

The Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta is continuing its pilot project for summer trial sittings in Calgary and Edmonton. Commencing immediately, the Civil and Criminal Trial Coordinators will have the ability to book non-jury criminal and civil trials, that are not expected to take longer than 5 days, to be heard during the period of July 2, 2013 to August 31, 2013.

There will be space on the Court schedule for one criminal trial and one civil trial, in each of Calgary and Edmonton, per week.

 

CPD Deadline: March 15

If you have yet to declare your 2013 CPD Plan, this is a reminder that the submission deadline is Friday, March 15. Identify, evaluate, create and declare by visiting www.cpdalberta.ca.

The Minister of Service Alberta has requested input from interested lawyers in relation to proposed changes to the Condominium Property Act, last amended in 2000.

The questionnaire covers a wide range of topics, including: consumer protection for buyers; insurance requirements; access to corporation records; dispute resolution; board governance; and regulatory standards for condominium managers.
