Alberta Law Day

This will be the 31st year the Canadian Bar Association, in cooperation with the Alberta Law Foundation and the Law Society of Alberta, will organize activities throughout the province to celebrate Law Day. Law Day provides an opportunity for Albertans to learn about their legal system and the role the law plays in their country. In the past the event has been very successful in all the centers participating with an enthusiastic audience taking part in these activities. All members of the public are welcome to attend the Open House at the Courthouse.

Members of the Bar are invited to meet with Justice Craig Jones, the Southern Alberta Surrogate Practice Advisor, Justice Peter Michalyshyn, the Northern Alberta Surrogate Practice Advisor, and the Surrogate Rules Committee to have an open discussion regarding practices and procedures in surrogate matters.

International Interests in Mobile Aircraft Equipment Act

As of April 1, 2013, The International Interests in Mobile Aircraft Equipment Act is in force in Alberta. This Act implements the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment and the Protocol on Matters Specific to Aircraft Equipment. At this time 56 countries and regional economic organizations have ratified the Convention and Protocol which allows security interests in mobile aircraft equipment to be registered in an International Registry located in Dublin, Ireland. For more information please visit the International Registry of Mobile Assets website. An Aviation Working Group has produced a practitioner’s guide. This Working Group is also holding a free seminar in Ontario in April (see the website).
