Notice of Suspension - Ned Ephraim Frohlic

Effective March 1, 2013, Ned Ephraim Frohlic, who resides and practiced in Edmonton, Alberta, was suspended pursuant to section 83(7) of the Legal Profession Act, R.S.A. 2000, c. L-8. as a result of a conviction of an indictable offence under section 380 (1) (A) of the Criminal Code. The Law Society was only recently advised of this conviction and imprisonment for sixteen (16) months.

On March 1, 2011, Mr. Frohlic was suspended for non-payment of fees and has not been an active member since that date.

 

Notice of Suspension - Christopher Dean Zilinski

On July 25, 2013, the Benchers of the Law Society of Alberta suspended the membership of Christopher Dean Zilinski of Edmonton, Alberta effective immediately, pursuant to section 63 of the Legal Profession Act, R.S.A. 2000, c. L-8. They did so because Mr. Zilinski’s conduct is the subject of proceedings under Part 3 of the Legal Profession Act and the Benchers considered his suspension warranted in the circumstances.

Notice of Suspension - Matthew Both

Effective July 15, 2013, Matthew S. Both was suspended for non-payment of the 2013/2014 Professional Liability Insurance Levy.

 

Notice of Suspension - Veronika Hamza

Effective July 15, 2013, Veronika Hamza was suspended for non-payment of the 2013/2014 Professional Liability Insurance Levy.

 

"Drop Dead" Rule Extended to Three Years

The Rules of Court were amended effective July 25, 2013, by Order in Council 221/2013. 

View the complete amendments to the Rules of Court, as well as a summary of the changes.

Included in the changes are amendments to R. 4.33, the “drop dead” rule. The drop dead period has been lengthened from two years to three years. In addition, the rule has been rewritten by eliminating the reference to “things” that advance an action, and by clarifying some of the other provisions.
