Finding Files & Wills
If you have lost track of a lawyer and need help finding a file or will, the Law Society of Alberta may be able to help you.
You can help us in our search by providing as much information as you can about the file or will you need. For instance, if you know the name of the lawyer or law firm involved in creating the file/will, please include that detail. If you think you know when the file/will was created, please add that too. Please complete a request form and Records & Information Management Services will contact you about your search.
Other Resources for Finding Files & Wills
If the Law Society of Alberta does not have your file/will, we suggest you try the following:
Place an advertisement asking for information on the whereabouts of the will in newspapers based in locations where the deceased may have created a file or will.
You could also try advertising in Law Matters, a publication of the Canadian Bar Association, Alberta Branch. If you are interested in placing a classified ad contact: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Hire a Lawyer
If none of this works, you may want to contact a lawyer for further assistance on locating a will or for dealing with an estate that has no will.
