Congratulations Kendall Moholitny
The Law Society is pleased to congratulate Kendall Moholitny, Director, Regulation and Professionalism, as the recipient of the 2024 Women in Law Leadership (WILL) Award for Leadership in the Profession (Broader Roles).
The WILL Awards are presented annually to female members of the Alberta legal profession in recognition of their outstanding dedication, initiative, achievement, and contribution to the community, profession, legal scholarship, and pro bono activities.
This award recognizes and applauds a lawyer who applies her skills as a leader in a non-practising broader role who has shown extraordinary leadership in legal skills and capabilities, contribution to legal education and/or scholarship, mentoring of law students and junior lawyers, demonstrated leadership in equity and diversity initiatives and a commitment to being a positive role model for other lawyers.
Kendall was called to the bar in 1998 and spent years in private practice, including a few years practicing abroad, before joining Pro Bono Law Alberta (PBLA) in 2013 as a Program Manager. While at PBLA, she moved into the role of Deputy Executive Director and later Executive Director, contributing to her extensive leadership experience.
Kendall joined the Law Society in 2018 as Manager, Early Intervention, where she worked collaboratively on protocols and processes, both internal to Early Intervention and with other teams across the organization.
In the fall of 2020, she took on the newly created position of Senior Manager, Professionalism. In this role, she led the Professionalism team, which includes Practice Management, Early Intervention and Intake. She has continued to focus on process improvement and innovation, including important work on outcome measurement and data driven decision making.
In 2022, Kendall joined the Executive in her current role, which oversees both the Regulation and Professionalism areas of the Law Society. She is a critical part of the Law Society’s continuing strategic work on effective regulation, serving on a number of internal and external committees that are working to protect the public through transparent, proportionate and efficient regulation.
Despite her ongoing and continued success both in her previous roles and at the Law Society, Kendall insists that she prefers to work behind the scenes, helping make both the work and the people she works with better. She attributes this to the example of other women who have supported and championed her throughout her career.
“I am honoured to be the recipient of this award and to be in the company of so many amazing winners, past and present,” says Kendall. “I have been lucky to have mentorship from strong women throughout my career and believe in the importance of paying it forward.”
Regardless of Kendall’s preference, her tireless devotion to her work and to her team hasn’t gone unnoticed.
“Kendall’s contributions in her years at the Law Society are immeasurable,” says Elizabeth J. Osler, KC, the Law Society’s CEO and Executive Director. “Her commitment to improving the systems and processes that underpin our regulatory framework has been essential to our strategic work, and her continued leadership both inside and outside the Law Society has made a material difference in the lives of many Albertans. We are so lucky to have her.”
