Alberta Government Survey: Professional Regulatory Body Review
The Government of Alberta is conducting a review of all regulatory bodies in Alberta, including the regulation of the legal profession. You can view the announcement here.
The government has requested we share the survey and all Alberta lawyers are invited by the government to participate in this important conversation by completing the government survey. Lawyers should have received the link to the survey via eBulletin on Oct. 29.
As with all consultations, it is important for the government to gather diverse perspectives from as many stakeholders as possible. There is an open-ended question at the end of the survey for lawyers to provide additional information or thoughts to the government about these important topics. We encourage all lawyers to take this opportunity to answer the questions as outlined and to share any additional perspectives.
If you have questions about any of the Law Society processes or initiatives, we encourage you to review our many resources. Here are a few resources that might be helpful in this conversation:
- Continuing Professional Development – Read more about Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and how lawyers have the freedom to choose their annual learning activities using the Professional Development Profile.
- Act, Code and Rules – The Law Society of Alberta derives its authority from the Legal Profession Act. Serving in the public interest, the Law Society sets out standards through its Rules and Code of Conduct.
- Tribunal Office – Learn more about the Tribunal Office that independently coordinates and oversees the Law Society’s administrative hearings, including regulatory matters about Alberta lawyers. Read the Pre-Hearing and Hearing Guideline for more details.
- Complaint Process – Review our complaint process, starting with the complaint being received and moving through to the resolution and early intervention or conduct stream.
