LESA – Costs
Edmonton and Online | May 06, 2025
Please join representatives from partner organizations in Alberta’s legal community as we roll out the welcome mat for new and upcoming lawyers. The Law Society of Alberta, the Alberta Lawyers’ Assistance Society, the Alberta Lawyers Indemnity Association, the Canadian Bar Association – Alberta Branch and the Legal Education Society of Alberta are collaborating to present some helpful information and answer your questions.
These lunchtime events are free of charge and will feature presentations to help you get a better understanding of what our organizations offer and how to access the different supports available. Let us take some of the guesswork away from your early days of practice and introduce you to a wide variety of resources.
You are encouraged to attend if you are a new Alberta lawyer or if you are an articling student who will be called to the bar in the next six months. Spots are limited and registration is required.
Lunch/presentations will take place from noon – 1 p.m. Representatives from the different organizations will be available for an additional half an hour following the presentations for any questions and networking.
Please indicate any dietary restrictions you may have upon registration. We will do our best to accommodate dietary requests but since this is a pizza buffet lunch, options may be limited. Food items will be marked with their dietary allergens.

On Jan. 1, 2025, new rules governing Client Identification and Verification came into effect for Alberta lawyers. These rules expand how lawyers can effectively verify their client’s identity and use both agents and authentication technology to safeguard clients, their money and prevent money-laundering.
Following the overwhelming interest in our January webinar on “Client Identification and Verification: What Lawyers Need to Know”, we invite lawyers to join Bernadette Charan, Manager, Trust Safety, and Laura Coffell, Regulation Counsel, for a follow-up webinar dedicated to answering lawyers’ most frequently asked questions.
Submit your question in advance during registration or wait until the live Q&A as part of the session.
As a primer, it is recommended that you watch the January webinar recording.

Law is a profession rife with constant demands, whether that be around billable hours, client expectations, and meeting firm/organizational markers for success. Lawyers are driven individuals, who often seek a relentless pursuit of productivity and achievement. The result can often be difficulty winding down and switching off (if you get the chance). It’s common for lawyers to end up feeling heightened and anxious most of the time. It can even lead to burnout.Â
The Law Society is hosting a webinar on Tuesday, May 6 at noon to coincide with Canadian Mental Health Association’s (CMHA) Mental Health Week. We are pleased to feature Annmarie Carvalho, a former family solicitor turned therapist, trainer and public speaker. She is the founder of TCC, a multi-award-winning therapy, training and coaching agency which specializes in ‘helping lawyers stay sane’. In this webinar, we will explore:Â
Please join the webinar at 11:45 a.m. — fifteen minutes before the main presentation begins — to participate in a mindfulness/breathing exercise presented by Alberta Lawyers’ Assistance Society and led by Ashleigh Frankel of the Canadian Association of Law and Mindfulness (CALM) to reset our minds and bodies.Â
How can bar leaders shape the future of the legal profession through mentorship? Join a dynamic panel discussion, hosted by NCBP’s 21st Century Lawyer Committee in collaboration with the National Legal Mentoring Consortium (NLMC), to explore effective, structured mentoring program models. Panelists will examine how organizations can implement these programs to foster professionalism, ethics, and community within the legal profession. Discover actionable strategies to promote mentorship and professional development for the next generation, strengthening the profession for years to come.
