Locum Connect: Program Recruitment
The Law Society of Alberta offers Locum Connect as a free program that puts lawyers in touch with employers looking to hire a temporary stand-in (a “locum”) for a specified period of time.
The purpose of the program is to help law firms/organizations meet their short-term coverage needs while also giving lawyers an opportunity to gain experience without having to commit to a permanent position.
Register as a Law Firm/Organization
Employers can search our list of locum candidates available for work, or register a new opportunity on behalf of their firm/organization. They can design the terms of a locum engagement to reflect the needs and requirements of the position they are looking to fill.
A locum can benefit your practice or organization by:
- providing coverage on short-notice;
- handling specific files or projects;
- alleviating workloads during an unexpected surge in business; or
- allowing for short-term contracts when hiring full-time is not feasible.
Register as a Locum Candidate
Lawyers can register as a locum candidate, browse the locum opportunity listing and inquire about an employment opportunity to learn more or apply for a position. Locums can serve as a short-term employee or independent contractor, full-time or part-time, and can specify their preference for working onsite or remotely.
Becoming a locum can be beneficial if you are:
- looking to expand your work experience and marketability;
- interested in trying out a different area of law before making a career change;
- returning from a leave and wanting to ease back into the workforce; or
- looking to wind down your practice but not ready to fully retire.
Please note: The Law Society does not vet candidates, firms or organizations or participate in any of the subsequent negotiations or terms of engagement.
