Custodianship

The Law Society of Alberta supervises the appointment, administration and discharge of court-appointed custodians. The Law Society also oversees informal custodial arrangements when approved.

Custodians appointed for disciplinary reasons are generally identified in the Notice of Suspension or Disbarment. Where a custodian is appointed for other reasons, such as death or illness of a lawyer, a Notice of Custodianship may be issued.
